More than half of the world now uses social media...

Half the world… just let that sink in…

And in the UK, there are more than 48 million of us using social media regularly.

Your people are on there somewhere. They’re very likely on a number of social networks and messaging apps – but where exactly are they? With so many channels to choose from and limited time, how can you make sure your posts are reaching your supporters and potential supporters?

The graphics below show by age and sex which channels your audience are most likely using. Take a look – hopefully it will help you decide where to focus your attentions…

Across the sexes, Facebook is still the most popular social media channel, but when you did down into age groups you can see how this differs…

For Millenials or Generation Y – those who are currently 21-38 (approximately), Instagram is the platform of choice, just edging out Facebook.

For Generation X, those who are 40-55, Facebook is the clear leader, with Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram attracting similar shares of the audience.

Baby Boomers, those who are 55+ Facebook is the leading social media channel, followed closely by Google+ so if you are targeting this audience it’s worth investigating Google+ – in particular Google My Business – as an avenue to reach you ideal clients.
