Building a start-up business during lockdown

A husband and wife team, keen to help their local community during Covid-19 lockdown, established a grocery delivery service called ‘Eggcellence for Charity’. Deliveries were made weekly within a 5-mile radius of their home by a giant yellow chicken!

Demand grew and it quickly became clear that keeping track of orders manually was not working, so I set up a simple webshop for them.

The owners decided very early on that they would donate half of all profits to the local NHS charity, My WiSH, as a way of thanking NHS staff for their heroic efforts.

"Eggcellence was a daft idea my husband and I came up with as we wanted to help people during lockdown. Farrah helped us craft it into a successful micro-business. We had complete trust in her and her advice. The content she produced - week in, week out - kept our customers entertained and informed, and most importantly, drove sales."

A Facebook page was created and a social media content plan agreed with them, posting daily to promote products and drive sales.

I also established a weekly email to customers to encourage repeat purchases, and press released about the launch of the service gaining exposure in the local press and on radio.

Just a sample of the variety of social media posts produced for Eggcellence for Charity.

The campaign ran for 2 months in which time more than 300 people followed the Facebook page, 250 orders were placed by more than 100 customers, and just over £1,000 was raised for charity.

An eggcellent result!
